The fascination with Latin American telenovelas is worldwide. Huge audiences that transcend nation, class, culture, age and gender differences sit daily in front of their television sets to watch these melodramatic serials. I'm a Latin American woman. Therefore, telenovelas have never been far away from my life. I'm also a scholar and telenovelas have been my chosen object of study since 1999.

Another loss: Daniel Farias
The telenovela world has lost another of its important figures. Actor/director Daniel Farías died at 74 in Florida, where he lived the last years of his life. Born in Cuba, Farías lived in Venezuela for more than 40 years. .
Daniel Farías was the director of record of extremely successful telenovela Cristal, which was written by Delia Fiallo. The protagonists were Jeanette Rodríguez, Carlos Mata and Lupita Ferrer. Cristal was a hit in every country where it was sold. It was particularly important in Spain, opening up this country to Venezuelan telenovelas.
Daniel Farías was also the father of writer Perla Farías (Mis Tres Hermanas, Juana la Virgen), who currently works in Telemundo.
May he rest in peace.
Here are some videos of telenovela Cristal:
